Legal
Terms of Use
Last updated: June 4, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Dictor (“Dictor”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), operated from dictor.io, and govern your use of our desktop app, mobile keyboards, websites, and related services (the “Service”).
By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Dictor is a dictation and AI assistant that transcribes your speech and runs commands to fix or transform text. AI requests are processed on our backend (Convex) and routed through OpenRouter to the AI model providers we select.
We choose providers and models to give you the best balance of quality, speed, and price we reasonably can, and we may change the models and providers we use at any time to improve the Service.
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your country to use the Service. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, for keeping your credentials secure, and for all activity under your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service lawfully and responsibly. You must not dictate, submit, generate, or use the Service to create or distribute content that is illegal, or to plan, facilitate, or carry out any illegal activity.
Without limiting the above, you must not use the Service to:
- Create or distribute illegal content, or content that infringes others’ rights.
- Harass, threaten, defame, or harm others, or produce content that sexually exploits or endangers minors.
- Attempt to break, overload, reverse engineer, or circumvent the Service, its limits, or its security.
- Resell, abuse, or use the Service in a way that places an unreasonable load on our systems or our providers.
4. Suspension and termination
We may suspend, limit, or remove your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we suspect illegal activity, abuse of the Service, or any violation of these Terms. We may also remove access to protect the Service, our providers, or other users.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Termination does not entitle you to a refund (see “Payments and no refunds”).
5. AI output and accuracy
The transcripts, corrections, and other text the Service produces are generated by third-party AI models provided through our providers. We do not author this output and we are not responsible for it. If the output contains errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or otherwise objectionable content, that is a characteristic of the underlying model from the provider we selected.
We cannot and do not guarantee that results will be accurate, complete, or error-free at all times. We do our best to deliver the best service and the best results we reasonably can, but you are responsible for reviewing and verifying any output before relying on it. The Service is not a substitute for professional advice.
6. Plans, free requests, and promotions
Free users may receive a number of free requests per day. The existence and amount of any free allowance is entirely at our discretion. We may change the number of free requests at any time without prior notice. If we remove the free allowance entirely, we will inform users.
From time to time we may offer discounts or free access to everyone. These promotions are time-based, may start and end at any time, and we do not guarantee any particular duration. When a promotion is active, we will make it clear that it is a promotion.
7. Bring your own key (OpenRouter)
If you choose to use your own OpenRouter provider, you will be charged for your usage directly by OpenRouter. Charges are based on OpenRouter’s pricing in effect at the time of each request, so your spending reflects live, usage-based rates that you can monitor.
You are responsible for your own provider account, its costs, and compliance with the provider’s terms. We are not responsible for charges incurred through your own key.
8. Payments and no refunds
Paid plans and any usage-based charges are billed through our payment processors or, for your own key, through your provider. All fees are non-refundable. Because we incur costs from our providers for processing your requests, we do not offer refunds for fees already paid or usage already incurred, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
9. Changes to subscriptions
If we change the price of a subscription or the terms and modalities of a paid plan, we will notify you. Where required, changes to your subscription will take effect on a going-forward basis, and your continued use after the change means you accept it.
10. Changes to the Service
We are continually improving Dictor. We may add, change, or remove features at any time without prior notice. We may also change the AI models and providers used to deliver the Service. We are not liable to you for modifying or discontinuing any feature of the Service.
11. Your responsibility for how you use the Service
You are solely responsible for how you use the Service and for the content you submit and generate. We are not responsible for your use or misuse of the Service, including any consequences of acting on the output. If you use the tool to do something wrong, that is your responsibility, not ours.
12. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and the Dictor name and logo, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. As between you and us, you retain rights to the content you submit, subject to the permissions needed for us to operate the Service.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the Service or its output will meet your requirements or be available at all times.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dictor and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service or any AI output. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the three months before the claim.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dictor and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party rights.
16. Support and reporting issues
If you experience a problem with the Service, please report it by emailing our support team at support@dictor.io.
17. Governing law and changes to these Terms
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where Dictor operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We may update these Terms from time to time; when we make material changes we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
